Small Beginnings

Passion for property.

The company was established in 2003 by Robert Boughton, formerly Regional Director of Countrywide, the UK’s largest and most successful estate agency group, who decided that his passion for property could be better channelled into creating aspirational places where people would dream of living.

These qualities would go on to become the values which are supported by Thakeham Homes in every development it creates. The locations are places where people really want to live, surrounded by generous green space and open countryside. Aspirational and yet achievable, these are traditional-style developments where an idealised lifestyle can be enjoyed.

The Fledgling Years

Partnership blossoms.

The first new Thakeham Homes property was completed in 2005; a two bedroom bungalow in West Sussex. From these modest beginnings, the Thakeham Family began its journey towards becoming a dynamic new residential developer.

The success of the venture made the partners realise what they might achieve, and fired their ambitions to go even further.

From the beginning, location was a key factor in the company’s success. The founding partners’ local knowledge and extensive contacts amongst landowners enabled them to acquire land in some of the most sought after spots in Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire.

Taking Off

Hard work pays off

By 2010, Thakeham Homes’ hard work and persistence was paying dividends. The company was now in the enviable position of holding a land bank equal to, if not greater than, that of many larger housebuilders in the South East.

By targeting key locations in their operational area, they had identified, and in many cases secured, opportunities for exceptional future developments. The Thakeham Family expanded in numbers of personnel, recruiting a team of housebuilding specialists and putting an effective management structure in place.

Set for Success

A new identity is born.

With enhanced funding secured, and an extensive land bank in place, 2013 marked the re-birth of the company. Future policy would be to create developments for the mid to upper end of the housing market.

These homes would be aspirational but achievable, in locations where other housebuilders were unsuccessful in acquiring land. A fresh identity was created to launch the new vision.

There was a name change from Thakeham Homes to simply ‘Thakeham’ and the original logo was replaced by the lion; signifying a strong brand that everyone could feel proud of.

About Thakeham

A Growing Ambition.

Thakeham’s aim is to increase its output substantially over the next ten years. For a relatively new developer, which was building ten homes per year just six years ago, this is an ambitious plan, but one which the Thakeham team is confident can be realised. With its partners, consultants, contractors and suppliers, it will define a product and customer experience that is second to none.

The company will do this through organic growth, developing its own land, having achieved its own planning consents.

The quality of the product and the locations will enable excellent sales rates to be achieved.
